Mazatlan Ocean Wildlife Tours

ONCA FAQFrequently Asked Questions

Our Tours & Exploations FAQ

Are the guides qualified?
Yes. Our guides are required to take a training program provided by oceanographers, biologists and naturalists. This program overviews several topics related to outdoor and nature activities, particularly those related to our explorations. These include: cetacean (whale and dolphin) biology, ecology and behavior, marine and terrestrial wildlife and flora identification and interpretation, security measures aboard marine and terrestrial vehicles, as well as behavior and communication skills for guiding tourist activities.

Can a handicap person take the tour?
Yes. As long as physical or mental condition of the participants do not affect the functional realization of the activity or exploration.

Is it guaranteed to watch a whale during the Cetacean Xplorer program?
No.Whales are highly mobile animals, and well….we all know nature is unpredictable! However, our skills in marine and cetacean research allow us to offer the participants a rich experience in marine fauna and nature interpretation. When no whales are found or environmental conditions compromise the security of our guests and our crew we offer optional activities like birdwatching along Bird Island, or to visit the sea lions at Turtle Rock, where these charismatic creatures rest during the entire winter season. Other optional activities include snorkeling, swimming or a beach walk along Deer Island.

What am I expected to see?
Mazatlan is the port of entrance to the Gulf of California, a place ranked as ecologically outstanding and among the most productive and aesthetic marine ecosystems of the world. A great marine diversity can be found in the area: Humpback whales during their winter migration, Fin whales, various species of coastal and oceanic dolphins, California sea lions, giant mantas, oceanic sharks and billfishes, sea turtles, and even a great variety of tropical fish if we get to practice snorkeling. So no worries, there´s lots to see!

Is the tour in english?
Yes. Our guides and crew are required to handle a high level english.
